First Women Police Battalion with 900 personnel have set to Haryana. Besides, the finance department has also given the go-ahead to set up a 1,150 strong State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Officials said that the process to recruit personnel for women battalion and SDRF would begin next month. SDRF personnel will be prepared for natural disasters as well as to counter terrorist acts and riots.
As on now, Haryana Police depend on Haryana Armed Police, or Reserve Battalions during the time of emergencies to control riots or violence. Similarly, the state lacked the experts to deal with natural disasters.
Home Secretary S.S. Parsad said that the women battalion will give further boost women’s strength in the police. Currently, we have 21 all-women police stations across the state. Similarly, SDRF will add to police preparedness toward disasters.
